Day 2 of Mike's Elk Hunt (Sunday, 10/12/08)

While Mike and the rest of the elk hunt team (Patrick, Jim, Ben, Mark and Justin) left here Friday night after a few obstacles (one member of the team got stuck in Anchorage and couldn't fly in until ~8pm...they usually try to leave @ 5 pm or earlier, and then they needed to track down 2 extra survival suits last minute)...they had no idea they would be tested with more challenges during their hunt. Sunday brought more challenges to Mike and the rest of the team. After Jim (the boat captain) dropped the 5 guys off on Afognak Island on Saturday, they hiked in and made camp for the night. Due to bad (windy?) weather, Jim moved the boat farther into the bay and dropped anchor. Unfortunately the anchor got stuck, Jim had some difficulty contacting the team and eventually they had to hike around the bay. Good news is they got 2 elf already but unclear if they had already gotten these elk and then had to hike around the bay(?) As Jim couldn't dive and get a close-up look at the anchor to cut or un-stick the anchor as he was alone on the boat...and with continued windy weather Jim couldn't take the skiff to pick up the team, they camped out on the beach last night. Hopefully today we'll hear some good news... And as this is all second and third person told, can't wait to hear it all first hand.

Cece's pic is from last night (Sunday)- cranky with a mild cold. Please keep Mike, Patrick, Jim, Mark, Justin and Ben all in your prayers. -R
