Fired up and hopeful

Good morning! I know its been awhile since our last blog...but I just haven't been inspired until yesterday and am sneaking in some computer time while Cece eats her breakfast. (otherwise this computer would be solely occupied with looking at puppy videos...sigh :})

So yesterday morning I heard on the news that the FDA has just approved a spinal cord research project using abandoned stem cells. This is the first research project using stem cells on humans and gives so much hope to the thousands and thousands of people suffering from debilitating degenerative diseases and traumatic accidents.

In July 2006, President Bush issued his first veto ever... "Bush's veto came in the face of strong public support for research and bipartisan congressional backing for the bill (supporting stem cell research)." At the news conference announcing his veto, Bush surrounded himself with children...the sanctimonious coward. This veto came after months of threats by Bush while various interest groups and congressional men and women struggled to come up with a compromise that would satisfy him. Possibly if Bush had to care for one of the hundreds of thousands of individuals living with a spinal cord injury for one day. To assist that individual with their routine catherizations, bowel programs, assisted them in struggling to care for their paralyzed limbs, bed sores, help them to transfer and position their bodies, help clean and maintain their tracheotomies so they can continue to breathe via their ventilators. For if Bush had tried to "walk" in their shoes, he would have realized that many individuals living with a spinal cord injury have little to no hope.

But now one day after President Obama takes office, millions have hope. "Federal drug regulators said that political considerations had no role in the decision. Nevertheless, the move coincided with the inauguration of President Obama, who has pledged to remove some of the restrictions placed on the field by former President George W. Bush." Thank you, President Obama!
