Beautiful weather and busy weekend

This weekend Kodiak enjoyed some much needed sunshine and warmer Fall weather. Mike and his friend, Preston, set a long line overnight Friday and caught one fish Saturday...a huge halibut (60 inches long and probably ~100#). On Sunday, Mike tried using a set net- catching 2 salmon, not quite what he had hoped for but pretty impressive since it was his first time and by himself. (no dirty comments please) Our friend Patrick then canned most of the halibut and salmon. Not sure what is more work...the fishing or the packaging/ care of the fish later. Saturday night, Mike and I went to a murder mystery dinner at a friend's house. It was a western theme and so much fun. Cece stayed home with our neighbor Karen, an awesome sitter who is now a senior in high school.
Sunday, Cece played with her friends Stuey and Nora, got new books from the library and got some new snacks at the health food store. Busy all around. Pics include blue skies above the ferry, Mike and his boat and Cece, Mike and the salmon.

When canning:
upside - beer, internet access, music
downside - kids biting the ankles, dishes

When setnetting/longlining:
upside - on the water, no kids
downside - slimy fish that need to be fileted, boredom (no offense mike), cold hands, putting everything away

I think it is a wash - Patrick
